Matthew Hawkins was born about 1704. He was a planter by trade.
Mathew married Rachel Burle on 25 July 1730.[1]
He passed away in 1760. His will was written in 12 Nov 1755 and granted probate on 26 Nov 1760.[2]

To dau. Elizabeth Hawkins, negro woman Rachel, 2 cows & calves, & 6 sheep, provided dau. Elizabeth Roberson make over to my 2 daus. Rebecca & Sarah Hawkins her right of Curles Hills, formerly her grdfather Curles land, & to dau. Sarah, Pettibones Rest, commonly called The Old Quarter
To dau. Ann Roberson, negro woman Phillis.
To dau. Rebecca Hawkins, Curles Hills, negro man Ben (bought of Mr. John Brice), negro woman Pheby, negro man James, negro woman Leady & her son Jacob, & negro woman Mireah & her son Robin.
To dau. Sarah Hawkins, negro girl Fanne, negro boy Ben, negro girls Cloe, Pethene, & Tamer, negro man King, & negro girl Hannah.

If any of my daus. mar. any chldn. of Mary Boone, wife of John Boone, [her] portion is to be 1 sh. sterl. & no more.
My 4 daus. Rebecca, Sarah, Annia, & Mathea shall have their land & legacies paid at age 20 or mar., & till then John Merriken is to care for their land.
My friend & extr., John Humphrys, is to care for the plntn. I live on till daus. Aeriane & Mathea reach age 20 or mar., & I give him my clothes & silver buckles.
