OBITUARY.

Mr. Edward William Haydon. After an illness of only a week, Mr. Edward William Haydon, popular butcher of Armidale, passed away on Saturday morning. His death came as a shock to his very many friends in the district, as only a week before he was at his place of business, and even on Sunday week he drove out to his slaughter yards and attended to several duties there. He complained of illness after returning home, and was rushed to the Armidale Hospital, where it was found necessary to perform a very serious operation on Sunday night.

An instance of the gravity of the operation may be gained from the fact that the Electric Supply Co. was asked to keep the current stable during the process. It was thought that there was a slight hope for his recovery, but his death took place on Saturday.

The late Mr. Haydon was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. James Haydon, of Kirkwood-street, Armidale, and was 48 years of age. He is survived by his wife and an adopted daughter, Miss Ella Kelly. Messrs. John, James, and Charles Haydon, of Armidale, are brothers, and Mesdames Sid Purkiss. C. Veale, and W. Kerwin, also of Armidale, are sisters.

The late Mr. Haydon was connected with the butchering business practically all his life, being associated with the old Co-operative Butchery, in Rusden-street, and afterwards with his brother, Mr. John Haydon, in the successful business in Beardy-street.

Evidence of his popularity was to be seen at the funeral yesterday afternoon, when a large number of friends and acquaintances assembled at the grave-side to pay their last respects. Members of the Ancient Order of Foresters attended in force, and members of the St. Mary's Old Boys' Union preceded the hearse to the cemetery. Rev. Father O'Brien conducted the service at the grave, and Mr. T. Crowley had charge of the arrangements.
