Biography

Henry Henderson is a part of US Black heritage.

Henry A. Henderson was born on 9 Apr 1877 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, United States of America.[1] According to his marriage record, his parents were named Sam Henderson and Lucinda Hite.[2] He moved to Columbiana County, Ohio in the early 1900's.[1]

Henry was married to Adeline E "Addie" Fletcher. Their marriage seems to have begun around 1904 according to their 1910 census record,[3] but they also have a marriage record from 1916.[2] They lived in Wellsville, Columbiana County, Ohio throughout their married lives. Their census records show that they had five daughters.[4] They also had a son, Henry Alfred Clay Henderson, who died in 1911 at the age of one when he tragically fell into an open grate and suffered burns.[5]

When he first moved to Wellsville, Henry worked at the Stevenson Co. and then as a janitor in the main office of the Wellsville Works of the American Sheet & Tin Plate Co., where he worked for about 20 years.[1][3][6][7] When that plant shut down, he worked for both the MacClean Funeral Home and the Central Federal Savins & Loan Association as a janitor. He retired from both of those jobs in Jan 1959.[1][8][9] Henry was also a member of Lee's Chapel, and African Methodist Episcopal Church in Wellsville.[1]

Henry died on 5 Aug 1960 in East Liverpool, Columbiana County, Ohio.[10][1] He was buried in Spring Hill Cemetery in Wellsville, Columbiana County, Ohio.[11]
