Biography

Margerie (Henlen) Kearney was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)

Registered as Ethel M. Henlen in 1894 at Bathurst, New South Wales, she was the daughter of George Frederick Henlen and Mary Louisa Whiley. ^[1][2]

Marriage. In September 1915, as Margerie Henlen, she married William Frederick Clark at the Tabernacle, Enmore, New South Wales. The newspaper account of their wedding said she was Marjorie Ethel, only daughter Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Henlen, Stanmore, late of Bathurst. William was the eldest son of the late Theodore Clark and Mrs Clark, of "Neston", Dulwich Hill and was to soon leave for active service. The marriage was registered Newtown, New South Wales. ^[3][4]

Widowed. On 17th April 1918, her husband was killed in action in France. He was awarded the Military Cross for his gallant actions in looking after the men under his command in the front trenches. He was killed by shell fire.

Marriage. On 28th July 1923, aged 28, Margerie Ethel Clark, Widow, married a 24-year-old Bank Officer, James Kearney at St. Clement's Church of England, Marrickville, New South Wales. A single man, James said he was born Geelong, Victoria, the son of Joseph James Kearney, Station Master, and Helen Williams. Margerie, born Bathurst, named her parents as Frederick Henlen, Deceased, and Mary Louisa Whiley. At the time of their marriage, James and Margerie both lived at Marrickville. ^[6]

Death. A death notice, published in the Sydney Morning Herald on 26th August 1976, informed the reader that Margerie Ethel (Kay) Kearney, late of Chatswood, had died 23rd August 1976. Her death was registered in New South Wales. ^{[7] [8]}
