Biography

Matts was born in 1685[1]. Starting in at least 1723[2], he lived on Öfverkodes Farm, Lapväärtti Parish, Finland (later, this farm is considered part of Isojoki Parish). He passed away in 1760 at age 75[3].

Research Notes

  • His profile at Geni suggests that he was the son of Henric Johansson Tunturi from Hirvijärvi in Siikainen. However the 1711 marriage record of that Matts to Brita Olofsdotter is with a patronymic of Johansson rather than Henricsson[4].
  • The 1713 tax census shows a Johan Öfverködes with wife Britha. Nearby is a new landowner Hendrich (Turkui? Is this what is read as Tunturi), living alone[5].
  • A notation in the margin of the 1723 maakirja may suggest a connection to Sastmola of three brothers, Johan, Matts and Lars Hendrichsson living near, but not at, Kodesjärvi[6].
