James Montgomery Henry, born on March 4, 1837, in Tennessee, to Henry Henry and Martha Jane (Montgomery) Henry, embarked on a life journey that would see him leave a lasting legacy in Hot Spring County, Arkansas.

Around 1857, he made the significant move to Arkansas, where he would later become deeply involved in the tumultuous events of the Civil War. At the outbreak of the conflict, he answered the call to duty and enlisted in the Confederate Army, serving as a private in the 2nd Arkansas Infantry until the war's conclusion. His unwavering dedication to his cause marked his character.

Following the Civil War, James settled in Hot Spring County, Arkansas, where he would make a significant impact on the community. For twelve years, he undertook the role of county assessor, demonstrating his commitment to public service and the welfare of his fellow citizens.

In 1870, census records placed him in Fenter Township, Hot Spring County, Arkansas, near the Rockport post office. Here, he turned to farming as a means of livelihood, contributing to the region's agricultural landscape.

By 1880, James had established his presence in Magnet Cove, Hot Spring County, Arkansas, where he continued his work as a farmer. His resilience and dedication to his chosen occupation were evident as he worked to provide for his family and community.

Tragically, on February 6, 1897, James Montgomery Henry passed away at his home in Malvern, Hot Spring County, Arkansas. His sudden demise came as a surprise to the community, and it was attributed to complications from la grippe and other disorders. He was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where he left behind a legacy of service, dedication, and resilience that continues to be remembered and appreciated by the community he called home.
