James Herbert was born about 1644 the second son of Henry Herbert of Coldbrook in Monmouthshire and his wife, Mary Rudyard, daughter of James Rudyard, a grocer, of London. [1]
On the 2nd of December 1669 he married Judith Mouse, daughter of Edward Mouse, goldsmith of Foster Lane in London. She was widow of John Godden, a laceman of Stoke Newington in Middlesex. [1] They were parents of an only child, their daughter, [1] Judith.
In 1685 he was returned to Parliament as member for Monmouth, to replace Charles Somerset, Lord Worcester who had chosen to sit for Gloucester. [2]
James died on the 6th of June 1709 aged 65. [1]
