John Dermott Herlihy was born unknown place; about 1839 to Thomas Herlihy and Elizabeth Doody.

Occupied as railway inspector in 1889 when he married; 1903 he was an engineer.

Married Alice Maria Burton at Brisbane Registrar Office, Queensland, Australia on 3 January 1889. They had no children.

Death occurred in Brisbane General Hospital, on 15 January 1906 and the event was registered as John Dermot Herlihy age 67 years with parent's names as Thomas Herlihy and Elizabeth Doody.

Buried 18 January 1906 at Toowong cemetery with James McGuffie. I contacted the cemetery trying to associate the two men and I was told it was a public gave and they had no known association.
