Lawrence Hermanza was born on August 8th of 1848 in the village of Damradshamer, Prussia. The village has since been renamed Lubnow, Poland. Lawrence married Christine Sochar on March 20th of 1868 in their village of Lubnow (Damradshamer). Their first five children were born in Poland. Lawrence and his brother Anton sold their farms together, tired of the constant strife in Europe, and in January of 1886 they left from the Port of Danzig to immigrate to the United States. Anton didn't pass the health check and had to stay in Europe. Lawrences family continued on and the ship disembarked at Ellis Island in New York City 8 weeks later, after which they took a train to St. Cloud, Minnesota. After arriving in St. Cloud, the whole family walked to Royalton, Minnesota, where the land office was located at the time. Lawrence purchased 100 acres of land in the St. Anna area for a farm. The family built a home from the trees that were cut and cleared for farming on their land. The whole family assisted with the building of the home, and the farm work. Lawrence passed away March 28th of 1900 due to a strangulated hernia and is buried in St. Anna, Minnesota. The farm of Lawrence Hermanza was being operated by one of Frances Hermanza Lagner's sons as of 1975.
