Biography

Isabel Herrera, also known as Isabel Martinez and Isabella Herrera, was born on 10 Jul 1870 in Losoya, Bexar County, Texas. She is the daughter of Jose Herrera and Refugia Gallardo. She received the sacrament of Baptism on 22 Aug 1870 at St. Carmen Catholic Church in Losoya, Texas.[1]

Isabel married, Ulfredo Martinez, son of Jose Dionicio Martinez and Isabel Ruiz, on 31 Oct 1891 at St. Carmen Catholic Church, Losoya, Texas.[2] From this union they had the following children: Maria de Jesus, Dionicio, Albert, Bessie Virginia, Nester, Ufredo, Ernest, Fred, Jose Maria, Susan and Erasmo.

The 1910 United States Census recorded the following: Alfred Martinez, Head, Male, age 39; Isabel Martinez, Wife, Female, age 40; Dionicio Martinez, Son, Male age 17; Jose M Martinez, Son, Male, age 16; Susan Martinez, Daughter, Female, age 14; Erasmo Martinez, Son, Male, age 12; Alberto Martinez, Son, Male, age 10; Versave Martinez, Daughter, Female, age 6; Virginia Martinez, Daughter, Female, age 4; and Nestor Martinez, Son, Male, age 2. All were born in the State of Texas.[3]

The 1920 United States Census documented the following: Vfredo Martinez, Head, Male, age 48; Ysabel Martinez, Wife, Female, age 49; Dionicio Martinez, Son, Male, age 27; Albert Martinez, Son, Male, age 19; Bessie Martinez, Daughter, Female, age 15; Virginia Martinez, Daughter, Female, age 13; Nestor Martinez, Son, Male, age 11; and Ufredo P Martinez, Son, Male, age 9. All household members were born in Texas.[4]

The 1930 United States Census indicated the following: Ernest Martinez, Head, Male, age 21; Ufredo Martinez, Father, Male, age 59; Isabelle Martinez, Mother, Female, age 50; and Fred Martinez, Brother, Male, age 19. All born in Texas.[5]

Isabel passed away at 7:00 AM on 24 Jan 1941 at the Santa Rosa Hospital, San Antonio, Texas. She was married and her residence was 129 Hawthorne Street, San Antonio, Texas. Cause of death: Gangrene of small vessel due to strangulated umbilical hernia. Funeral services was under the direction of Paul-Riebe Funeral Home. Burial was held 26 Jan 1941 at Mission Burial Park South, plot block 8.[6][7]
