Research

His birthdate is uncertain due to disagreement between two sources. 1. The passenger list on his immigration in 1840 gave his age as 40. 2. His obiturary gave his age in 1872 as 85.

Based on the age of his siblings (b. 1798 * 1802) a 1799/1800 birthday is the more likely.

Hetherington-1869 and Hetherington-496 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents, death date and known family descendants. Conflict in birthdate is due to record disagreement, ie his age in the immigration passenger list vs his obituary.
