Robert Henry Hickson was born on 25th January 1926 in Surry Hills, New South Wales, Australia. He was the son of Robert Hickson and Betty Andresen.

RAAF Base Garbutt

On 29th February 1944, Robert enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force for service during the Second World War; his final posting being to RAAF Base Garbutt. He was discharged on 11th March 1946 with the rank of Leading Aircraftman. [1]

Robert married Ainslie Ostermann in 1946 in Balmain, New South Wales. [2]
