Myrtle may have been married five times:
Her first husband was Wallace A. McClain. Their daughter, Mary Louise McClain (m. Lawson) was born in 1922 so they were most likely married before then.[2] When the 1930 United States Census was taken she was not on the record with Wallace McClain and her daughter Louise who were living in the household of Wallace's brother-in-law, Thomas Mixon. The record says Wallace McClain was married. Instead, she was lodging in the household of Eva G. Williams. Her occupation was listed as proprietor of a cafe.[3] She and Wallace McClain were divorced in 1931.[4]
She was next married to Theodore M. Ramsey on 14 June 1931.[5] The couple had sons in 1933 and 1934 who were stillborn.[6][7] They were enumerated on the 1940 United States Census together and on the 1945 Florida Census together.[8][9] This marriage ended in divorce in 1948.[10]
Mr. Glass was her third husband. They were married after 1948. The only reason it is known that this marriage took place is because Glass was listed as her surname in the record when Myrtle married her next husband.[11]
Myrtle married Lawrence C. Palmer on 01 December 1950 in Alabama.[11] This marriage ended in divorce in 1952.[12]
She remarried Wallace A. McClain (date unknown.) When he died on 25 February 1961, she was named as his wife in his obituary and she is the person who ordered his headstone.[13][14] Her obituary and gravestone are in the name Mary Hildreth McClain.[15]
Myrtle Hildreth McClain passed away on 14 November 1981 in Forrest County, Mississippi.[16] She was buried in Highland Cemetery, Hattiesburg, Forrest County, Mississippi.[17]
Research Notes
Myrtle Hildreth was a difficult person to research and it is quite possible I may have misinterpreted some information and gotten her marriage history incorrect. Please, if you are more familiar with her and you can add to her profile or correct anything I may have gotten wrong, I would appreciate your contribution.
