Melvin Burl Hildreth was born on 8 October 1901 in Conecuh County, Alabama, United States.[1] He was the son of Robert B. Hildreth (abt.1865-1943) and Malisia Rebecca (Pate) Hildreth (1877-1942).

Melvin enlisted in the United States Army on 10 October 1920. He was discharged on 30 Aug 1921.[4]
On 18 June 1923, Melvin Hildreth and Colie (Coley) Browder were joined in marriage in Conecuh County, Alabama. (Her name was spelled Callie, Cola, Coley on other records. Coley is the spelling most used.)[5]

There is a grave marked with a stone which reads "Infant Son of Mr. & Mrs. M. B. Hildreth" in Old Town Cemetery, Conecuh County, Alabama. The child's name and the dates of his birth and death were not recorded on the stone. He may be the child whose birth was recorded in Alabama Death Records as having occurred in 1936 and his death as having occurred on 17 September 1936 in Evergreen, Conecuh County, Alabama. The parents of that child, according to the index at FamilySearch.org, were M. B. Hildreth and Cela Browder. There is no way to know for sure if these were the same two children.[8][9]

Melvin Hildreth and Jessie Mae Johnson were married on 21 June 1978 in Monroe County, Alabama. (She may have been Jessie Mae Hyde at birth--her father's name on the marriage record is John D. Hyde.)[14]
Melvin Burl Hildreth passed away on 8 August 1993. His last place of residence was Evergreen, Conecuh County, Alabama.[15] He was buried in Old Town Cemetery, Conecuh County, Alabama.[16]
