In 1850, Jonathan "Witdrith", a 54 year old shoe maker, lived in De Witt, Onondaga, New York, with his wife Julia A., 41, and seven Hildreth children, including 18 year old Allen B.[1]

Father Johnathan Hildreth, a shoe maker, 58 b. Montgomery County, lived with his wife Julian, 44 b. Saratoga County, and eight younger Hildreths, including Allen, all born in Onandaga County in De Witt, Onondaga, New York. [2]

In 1860 in De Witt, Onondaga, New York, Allen Hildreth, a 35 year old farmer b. New York, was living with his wife Elisa, 30 years old b. Connecticut. The Ambrose Smith and James H. Smith families were enumerated immediately about Allen.[3]

Lucy C. Smith and Allen Hildreth were married in New York. When Lucy applied for a pension on September 26, 1865, she was living in Fairfield, Sauk County, Wisconsin. She stated: that she was 31 years old; that Allen was a Corporal in Company "E," of the 49th Wisconsin Infantry, who died at St. Louis on August 9, 1965; that she married Allen on August 18, 1855, at Chittenango, New York, by Elihu Bridge, a Methodist circuit minister; and that they have one surviving child, Frank A. Hildreth, b. June 20, 1860. The application was also signed by James S. Halsted and Charles Hildreth. The application stated that Allen enrolled in Company "E" at Baraboo, Sauk County, Wisconsin, on February 4, 1865, for a term of one year and was mustered in on February 14, 1865. The company was under the command of 1st Lt. Charles W. Farington. Allen died of typhoid fever at the post hospital at Benton Barracks, Missouri, on August 9, 1865. Lucy Hildreth, 34 years old, remarried to Charles Thorpe at Southington, Connecticut, on October 22, 1868. Lucy Hildreth was born at Derby, Connecticut, and Charles was born at Southington. Both were living at Southington at the time of their marriage. Lucy Thorp died on August 12, 1906, at St. Louis, Missouri, and was dropped from the pension rolls. Frank A. Hildreth was born on June 20, 1860, at Fayetteville, Onondango County, New York. For pension purposes, Charles Thorp was appointed the guardian of Frank A Hildreth.[4][5][6]

Allen enlisted in Company "E," Wisconsin 49th Infantry Regiment on 04 Feb 1865, at Baraboo, Wisconsin, for a period on one year. He was mustered out on 09 Aug 1865 at the Post Hospital, Benton Barracks, St Louis, Missouri, the date of his death of typhoid fever.[7][8] [9] He is buried at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri: Plot: 45 0 1533.[10]

When she applied for a Widow's Pension, Lucy was living in Fairfield, Sauk, Wisconsin. James H. and Charles Hildreth were witnesses to Lucy's application. In 1866, Lucy was living in Marion, Hartford, Connecticut. Lucy remarried to Charles Thorpe on October 22, 1868, by A. L. Freeman of the Southington Baptist Church, Southington, Connecticut. Lucy died on August 12, 1906.[11]
