Biography

Kelly Hill was an Appalachian.

Descendant of George Gollehon (1808-1891).

Kelly Robert Hill was the ninth child and last son of Emory Victor and Margaret Harriet Gollehon Hill.

He married Lois Candler and together they had four children:

1. Betty Jane Hill
2. Cathy Candler Hill
3. Kelly Robert Hill, Jr.
4. Rachel Gray Hill

Kelly was a member of the Emory United Methodist Church and the Glade Spring Masonic Lodge. He was a business partner in the Bonham and Hill Oil Company and a Decorated Veteran of WWII having served as a member of the Whitetail 323rd bombardment group, US Army Air Corps, based in France.

Military Service

Enlisted on May 22, 1943 for the duration of the War (WWII) or other emergency, plus six months as a private in the Army in Abingdon, VA^[2]

Kelly Robert Hill, Sr., age 83, a lifelong resident of Emory, VA died Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at his residence. ^[3]In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Candler Hill, a sister Elizabeth H. Scott; five brothers, Tatum H. Hill, Earl W. Hill, Kenneth Y. Hill, Howard L. Hill, and Emory A. Hill, Sr.. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lois Candler Hill of Emory, VA; two daughters Betty Jane Adams, Rachel Gray Hill; one son, Kelly Robert Hill, Jr.; two sisters Ruth Hill Coltrane and Margaret Hill Raleigh; one brother, M. Estes Hill; three grandchildren, three great granddaughters; numerous nieces and nephews.
