Henry Daniel Milton Hodge, Henry D.M. Hodge[1][2]
Henry b. 12 Nov 1837 Mt Zion Twp, Mason Co., IL[2] s/o Henry J. Hodge b. 11 Mar 1813 Orange Co., NC and Penelope Traughber b. 08 Oct 1818 Logan Co., KY d. 08 Sep 1885 Mount Zion Township, Macon Co., IL.[1][2] Father Henry was NC school teacher who moved to a farm near Nashville, TN until 1830 when he migrated to Sangamon Co., IL to join his stepfather. Henry became a farmer there and in 1831 he moved to Mt. Zion Twp. to become a settler when the area was quite wild and farmed the land. Henry and Penelope met in Mt. Zion and had their boy Henry there. Unfortunately, Henry's father died at 22 yo on 30 Aug 1838.[1]
On d. 30 Aug 1838 Mt. Zion, Macon, Co., IL when his father died, Henry was only 1 yo. His mother and step-father Martin Blaney raised him, sending him to public schools and having him work the home farm until he was 20 yo.[1]

In 1858, Henry left IL to live in Missouri where in 1859 he met and married Elizabeth Adams.[2]

After their marriage in 1859, Henry and Elizabeth lived on a farm in Johnson Co., MO for two years.[1]
In 1861, Henry returned to Macon Co., IL with his new wife and purchased land in Mt. Zion Twp. and increased his holdings to a total of 240 acres. On his farm, they grew crops and raised animals, becoming quite successful.[1]

In 1888, Henry retired from his farm and moved to the city of Decatur, Mason Co., IL.[1]
On 21 Jan 1899, Henry's wife Elizabeth died in Decatur.[1]

In Henry's biography published 1903, he was described as a prohibitionist who voted along party lines. He held minor township offices but focused on his business affairs rather than politics. Henry and Elizabeth were members of the Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian church. He had a life of "thrift and industry" given the success and value of his 240-acre Mt. Zion Twp. farm- one of the "best improved in the area." As one of the Mt. Zion's early pioneers, he has contributed to its development over a two-thirds of a century.[1]

IL, mother b. MO, literate, broker of live stock, self-employed, own the home free and clear; Emma Hodge, Anderson's spouse, 48 yo, b. IL, father b. IL, mother b. Henry d. 25 Jun 1927, Saturday at 4:15am in his home 616 W.Macon St., Decatur, Mason Co., IL and was buried in Fairlawn Cem., Decatur, Macon Co., IL. Wednesday he was stricken with apoplexy and never regained consciousness. Henry was survived by two sons, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.[2]
