Biography

Mary Elois Powell Lake City, Florida

Mary Elois Hodges Powell, 68, died Monday, July 2, 2012 at the Suwannee Valley Care Center (Haven Hospice). She was born in Lake City to the late James Shelton Hodges & Doretha "Dot" Alford Hodges Davis. She was full of life and loved sewing, cooking, and crocheting, loved watching movies, "Wild Hogs" was one of her favorites, and on TV it was UFC Fighting. She had a green thumb and worked to raise a garden and to draw her beloved hummingbirds into it. She enjoyed putting a good puzzle together from time to time and when on vacation her two favorite choices were a mix of being up in the mountains or relaxing down on St. Augustine Beach. She made her living at General Electric for 27 years before becoming a LPN with Suwannee Health Care and then the Alachua County Detention Center caring for others in need. At home she was known as a loving MOTHER and devoted NANA to her family. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Jeff & Ollie Hodges, her maternal grandparents, Charlie & Evie Alford, mother Doretha "Dot" Davis, sister, Bonnie Jean Roberts and loving Uncle Harry Alford, Mary Lou Alford Burnsed and Fred Alford.

Survivors include her only daughter, Tracy Powell Collins (Jimmy) of Ft. White, FL her loving grandchildren, Kelsey Sivik (Brandon) of Live Oak, FL and Bradley Luke of Ft. White, FL and Cathy Stone of Lake City, FL; brother, Shelton Eugene Hodges (Mary Ellen) of Lake City, FL; sister, Hilda Morris of Panama City, FL; a host of loving relatives and a blessed family friend, Sylvia DeLoach of Lake City, FL also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Hopeful Baptist Church with Dr. Rodney Baker, Rev. John Jackson and Shawn Boone officiating.

Interment will follow in Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Friday evening, July 6, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
