Anne was the daughter of Edward George Hoffman and Emily Rozencrantz.
She married William Jessup Cleaver on May 20, 1950 in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.[1]
Anne Katharine Hoffman Cleaver, 93, of Leland, passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at Effie's Assisted Living in Leland.
Anne was born Dec. 26, 1914, in Fort Wayne, Ind., the daughter of Edward George Hoffman and Emily Rosenkrantz Hoffman. On May 20, 1950, at her home in Fort Wayne, she married her husband of 44 years, William Jessup Cleaver, who preceded her in death on April 10, 1995.
Anne was a graduate of Wellesley College, class of 1937, studying at the Sorbonne in Paris during her junior year. She attended the Heron School of Art in Indianapolis and the Chicago Art Institute. Anne volunteered with the Red Cross in England during World War II.
As a member of the Fort Wayne Art League, and later president of the Indianapolis Art League, she used her creativity in a variety of jobs in New York and Boston after the war.
A world traveler, her family credits her longevity to her insatiable curiosity and love of life.
Anne is survived by her children, Mandy (Jim) Bankson of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Katie Cleaver (Peter Crabtree) of North Bennington, Vt.; grandchildren, Andi and Jeanne Bankson, and Anna Crabtree.
She was predeceased by her brother, Ned Hoffman.
Her family would like to thank Effie's of Leland for their loving care of Anne during the past two years.
A memorial service is planned for the fall, the date to be announced.
