Biography
William was a coal miner in the Peoria, IL area. The 1880 Federal Census lists him living in Groveland, Tazewell, IL. as a laborer (coal miner). His death date is listed as August 1, 1909 in Chicago, IL. He is buried in Eden Cemetery. He is listed as married on this date. His street address is listed as 460 Crystal St.
The William Hoffmann listed in the death information is most likely the correct William Hoffmann as a DNA match has been made. On Find a Grave website, the William Hoffmann listed on his grave marker has a wife, Dorothea. Which is wrong for this particular William) The reason I say this, is that looking at his children's death certificates, a William Hoffmann and Sarah Ellen Hodge are listed as parents for all children. So far, I have not found ANY record of another William or Wilhelm with this information.
William's Immigration record found on Family Search lists him in the correct location, (Tazewell, IL, not Chicago) in 1874, with his birthplace as Germany.
Since William was born in Germany (Prussia) about 1840 (he is listed as 40 years old in the 1880 census, which lists his wife as Sarah Ellen and the correct children).
