Mary A. Hogan was born in 1889.[1] She was the daughter of William Hogan and Polly McLean. Both Alice and Ann have been recorded as her middle name, and this remains to be clarified.
In 1910. Mary A. Hogan married John William Morrison,[2] sometimes identified as William John Morrison. It is probable, but not confirmed, that they resided in Merrendee (now known as Yarrabin) near Mudgee.
They were the parents of four children and all births were registered in the Mudgee district of New South Wales :
Sadly, John died in 1919 from a respiratory infection, probably in the pandemic which became known as "Spanish Flu".[7] Mary was left with four young children for whom to care. The following account was published in the local newspaper in Mudgee:
MR. W. J. Morrison
The death occurred in the Mudgee District Hospital early on Saturday morning of Mr. John Willam Morrison, aged 46 years. Deceased was admitted only five days previous to his death, of which pneumonia was the cause. The late Mr. Morrison had been living at Merrendee for some time. He married a daughter of the late Mr. William Hogan of that place. He is survived by a wife and four children, whose ages range from 15 months to 8 years. Mr. J. C. Swords will conduct the funeral at the Mudgee cemetery this afternoon.[8]
At the weddings of her daughters in 1932[9] and 1936[10][11] and the death of her mother in 1934,[12] Mary was identified as Mrs W. M. Smith although no record of this second marriage has yet been located. It appears that, after this second marriage, Mary resided in Inverell, New South Wales.
No further information is known and a record of Mary's death has not yet been located.
