Biography

James was a coal miner.

James married Kissie Shepherd 3 May 1884 in Mahaska County, Iowa.[1]

James Haliday age 25 and wife Kissie age 23 and Samuel Haliday age 10 were in 1885 living in Garfield, Beacon, Mahaska, Iowa. Also in the household was Grant Stewart, miner, age 20.[2]

Willie Hill and his wife Emma are found in the 1910 Census for Pittsburg County, Oklahoma in the home of Emma's father James Holiday. James Holiday was age 52, born in Virginia; he was a coal miner. His wife Kissie Holiday was age 55, born in Virginia. James and Kissie had been married 26 years (1st marriage for both); Kissie was the mother of 5 children, 2 then living. James's son-in-law Willie Hill was age 22, born in Alabama; he was a bricklayer. Emma Hill was age 19, born in Iowa; she was a teacher in a public school.[3]
