DEATH OF COLONEL DAINTRY HOLLINS.
We regret to record the death of Lieutenant- Colonel Michael Daintry Hollins, late of Whitmore Hall, but recently of Springfield Hall, near Newcastle-under-Lyme, which took place this morning. The deceased gentleman had been in failing health for about three years, gradually becoming weaker and weaker, his demise to-day causing no surprise to his friends. Colonel Hollins was the fourth son of the late Mr. Thomas Hollins, of Manchester, and Sarah, the daughter of the late Mr. William Clegg, of Westwood, Lancashire. He was born in 1815, and was therefore in his eighty-second year. In 1844 he married Elizabeth, the daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Mackenzie, M.D, of Newcastle-under-Lyme. He had previously obtained an interest in the firm of Mintons, of Stoke, and became a partner with the late Mr. Colin Minton Campbell. Some thirty years back he withdrew from that firm, taking away the tile manufacturing business, and under the name of Minton, Hollins, and Co., established a manufactory in Stoke which gradually obtained a very wide reputation for the high character of its productions. He controlled the destinies of this establishment until some three years back, when increasing infirmities made it imperative that the management of affairs should be transferred to other hands. The late Mr. Hollins Was a must enthusiastic Volunteer, and for some years held the colonelcy of the 1st North Staffordshire Battalion Prince of Wales's Regiment. He resigned his commission some six or seven years back, when his duties in connection therewith were taken over by Colonel Clive. He was a Deputy Lieutenant for the county of Stafford, and a Justice of the Peace for the Pirehill Division. He was a member of the Reform Club, London. The date of the funeral has not yet been fixed.[4]

Michael Daintry Hollins (age 82) was buried on 12 February 1898 in Whitmore, St Mary & All Saints, Staffordshire, England.[5] Michael's death (age 82) was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1898 in the Newcastle Under Lyme district.[6]
