Hiram Albert Holmes (Ezra, Ezra, James, John, John, John, George). Born in Kirtland, Ohio, March 10, 1840, and died at Fort Dodge, Iowa, April 13, 1904.
He married (first) at Painesville, Ohio, May 10, 1860, Mary Ellen Bliss, born in Willoughby, Ohio, July 11, 1837, now (1907) living there (in the oldest house in town), daughter of Henry and Sally (Lucas) Bliss. She was divorced in 1888 and never married again.
He married (second) in Kipton, Ohio, In February, 1880, Emma Belle Stearns, born in Olmstead, Ohio, Jan. 31, 1862, died in Kipton, May 10, 1884, daughter of Sidney and Martha (Stevens) Stearns.
He married (third), in Chicago, Belle Owen, a widow, born in 1846, and died at Emmetsburg, Iowa, in Aug., 1903, of a cancer in the stomach. She had three sons by her first husband.
Mr. Holmes was a farmer, a cheesemaker and a travelling salesman. He was in the Rebellion, serving about three months in the 105th Ohio Infantry. Was sick in the hospital most of the time.

II. LENA BELLE, b. in Kirtland, O., May 31, 1866, now (1907) living in Willoughby, O.; m. there Dec. 30, 1891, Samuel Herbert Dare, a general freight agent, b. in Cranbury, N. J., Mar. 13, 1863, son to Samuel Titus and Eliza (Craigh) Dare. Ch., both b. in Willoughby: 1. Vernon Bliss Dare, b. June 30, 1894; d. Apr. 23, 1895. 2. Leon Holmes Dare, b. Oct. 27, 1897.
III. STELLA MARIE, b. in Willoughby, Sept.13, 1867; d. in Casselton, No. Dakota, Feb. 17, 1905, of pneumonia; m. in Willoughby, May 6, 1890, William Gallup, a livery stable keeper, son of Ruel Gallop. One ch., Ruel Holmes Gallup, b. in Casselton, May 20, 1897.
IV. GUY SIDNEY, b. in Lorain, O., Aug. 8, 1882. [1]

The Story of a Thousand

Enlisted in to Company F of the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on 1862-Jul-30 at age 22 as Private. He was discharged on 1862-Oct-11 for disability. [2]
