Jane Holmes was born in Ireland.
Jane Holmes came free to the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)

Jane was born circa 1837.[1]

Jane emigrated from Liverpool on 27 October 1841 on the 'Champion' with her parents and siblings (both biological and adopted).[2][3][4][5] After a voyage of 108 days Jane arrived at Sydney on 12 February 1842. During the voyage 5 sailors committed mutiny but were eventually released by the Attorney General.[6][7][8][9]

She presumably lived with her parents in Sydney in 1843. It is not clear that the entry refers to this family, but is a reasonable speculation given that Bridget and her husband claimed to live in this same street ten years later.[10] She presumably lived with her parents in Sydney in January 1851. in Macquarie street.[11]

She may have attended the wedding of her sister in the marriage of Henry Hugh Hill and Bridget Holmes in St. James' Church of England on Monday 20 January 1851 in Sydney. Bridget and Henry went on to have four children together.[12][13]

She may have attended the wedding of her sister in the marriage of William Patrick McMunn and Albina Hyde Holmes in St. James' Church of England on Monday 17 January 1853 in Sydney. William and Albina went on to have some 10 children together.[14][15]

Jane and Margaret Holmes attended the wedding of Henry Hugh Hill and her sister Maria Holmes in a Presbyterian ceremony on Tuesday 1 September 1863 in Rockhampton, Queensland. They also signed the marriage certificate as witnesses. the manse next to the church on the corner of Bolsolver and Derby streets.[16][17][18][19]

Maria's younger sisters Margaret and Jane stayed in Rockhampton with the new Hill family until two months after the wedding, returning in early November.[20] She and Margaret Holmes were found on a passenger list on 5 November 1863 from Rockhampton to Brisbane.[21]

Her father died 1 July 1864 at the approximate age of 70.

Her mother died 11 January 1865 at the approximate age of 65. Jane lived in 1900 in Darlinghurst.[22] Jane lived in 1901 in Darlinghurst. Also in the house was her sister's son Joseph.[23] Jane and Maria lived in 1901 in Darlinghurst.[24] She was a dressmaker in 1908.[25] Jane lived in 1908 in Darlinghurst.[26] Jane lived in 1913 in Darlinghurst.[27]

Jane died on 12 May 1918 in Balmain South.[28][29] Her body was interred in Field of Mars cemetery on 14 May 1918 in Ryde. Presbyterian, E, 314.[30]
