Birth and Parents: Voyce Tyson Hooks was born on 07 August 1931 in Alabama. There is a slight discrepancy between the date of birth on his Social Security record (05 August) and that engraved on his gravemarker (07 August).[1][2] His parents were Elihu Hooks (1880 - 1935) and Allie Rebecca (Hildreth) Hooks (1889 - 1974).

1940 United States Census, Enumeration District 18-11, Brooklyn Conecuh County, Alabama: In the indices of this record, his first initial is rendered as a "J," but the way the enumerator formed his "V" could have been mistaken for a "J."[3]
