Biography

The story that has been passed down to me was when James Lee was about three his mother, Betty Ann, passed away. She was ill to begin with and died shortly after the end of the Civil War upon hearing that her husband, John Hope who was a Lieutenant in the Southern Army, and her two sons, a sergeant and a private, we're all killed within less than a month of each other. She died at the state hospital in Morgantown, NC and is buried there. John was said to have been buried under a large oak tree in Massachusetts but it wasn't know why that location was chosen. James Lee was raised by his Uncle Henry Hope? He found out as an adult that he had a sister, Mandy, that he never knew about. He went to visit her and her family but, upon arrival, found she had died nine days prior.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
