Biography

On 19 Apr 1910 at the time of the 1910 US Census, head of household Melvin Hostetter (age 50, born in MN) was employed as a Millman in a Saw Mill and living in a home he owned free of mortgage in Adelaide, Washington with his wife Hilda Hostetter (age 42, born in Norway) employed as a Keeper at a Boarding House; daughter Vesta Hostetter (age 19, born in MN); son Ingomar Hostetter (age 17, born in ND); son Aaron Hostetter (age 14, born in ND); daughter Marion Hostetter (age 11, born in ND); daughter Alta Hostetter (age 9, born in WA); son Carl Hostetter (age 6, born in WA); and son Claudius Hostetter (age 2, born in WA)--and six male boarders. Melvin and Hilda had been married for 24 years; Hilda had given birth to 7 children, all 7 of whom were still alive at that time. Hilda immigrated from Norway to the USA in 1878. Melvin's father was born in Pennsylvania, and his mother in Ohio. Hilda's parents were both born in Norway. [1]

On 7 Jan 1920 at the time of the 1920 US Census, head of household Melvin Hostetter (age 60, born in MN) was employed as a Shingle Manufacturer and living at a home he owned free of mortgage at 6647 East "B" Street in Tacoma, Washington with his wife Hilda W. Hostetter (age 51, born in Norway); daughter Marion Hostetter (age 21, born in ND); daughter Alta J. Hostetter (age 18, born in WA) who was employed as a Stenographer for the Red Cross; son Carl Hostetter (age 14, born in WA); and son Claudius Hostetter (age 12, born in WA). Melvin's father was born in Pennsylvania and his mother in Ohio. Hilda immigrated to the USA in 1869 and was naturalized in 1885; both of Hilda's parents were born in Norway. [2]

Death and Legacy

On 29 Oct 1979, Alta Ione Hostetter Hopkins died at age 79 in Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington, USA. Alta was buried at Tacoma Cemetery in Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington, USA. [3]
