According to the NEHGS, he married Thankful Dickinson on 31 Jan 1774 in [1] A separate transcription of vital records[2] reveals two dates for this couple, suggesting the first date, 31 Jan 1774, was the date intention was filed, and the second one, 4 Sep 1774, the date of marriage. Both records are from Guilford.
He learned the trade of a tanner and shoemaker. He was a soldier in the American Revolution 1775, and in 1780 removed to Cornwall, Connecticut. He studied theology and on 17 Aug, 1785, was ordained and installed pastor of the 4th Congregational Church in Guilford. In 1789, he was settled at Greenville, Greene Co., New York, where he remained until 1824, when he removed to western N. Y., and preached at Wheeler and Pulteney, Steuben Co., New York. He received an Honorary Master of Arts degree from Yale College in 1794.
In 1827 went to reside with a son at Prattsburgh where he died on 28 Jan 1829.
