Biography

Born 9 APR 1825. Lancaster Co, SC. [1]

Died 30 JUN 1862. Frayser's Farm VA. [2]

Note: William Hough enlisted 10 July 1861 at Ridgeville, SC, stating he was 35 yearsof age. His home was 17 miles from Ridgeville, which is in Dorchester Co, not far from Charleston. He enlisted as a Corporal in Capt. E. B. Cantey's Company 2d SC Volunteers. This company became Co E, 9th SC Inf. Subsequently, the men of Co E re-enlisted and were assigned tothe 6th SC Inf. Williamwas in Co C, 6th SC Inf, when he was killed at Frayser's Farm in the Seven Days Battles of June 29/30, 1862. Benjamin Hough was wounded in the same battle. This record does not seem to fit William Hough of Kershaw Co, though the age is close. The historyof Kershaw Coindicates that this was indeed the same person. It isnot known when William moved or why he was living near Ridgeville. 2 Hough lineage is William & Elizabeth (Norris) of SC' Amos & Charity (Deason) of SC; Amos & Sarah (?Bivens) of NC & SC; Joseph Hough of Anson Co, NC. 2 References: 2 1864, Camden Daily Journal, issue of 8 Dec 1864, on marriage of Charity Hough to John West, p156. 2 Brent Holcomb, Marriage and Death Notices fromCamden, SC, Newspapers 1816-1865. 2 Records of Mrs. Ann Morgan Martin 529 Seneca Dr., Camden SC 29020. 2 Researach by Margaret N Wilshusen, 866 Kent Road, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
