Biography

Sarah Hough was born on 23 Feb 1651 in Glouchester, Massachusetts and baptized there on 23 March 1651[1].

Sarah was the third child of William Hough and Sarah Caulkins.

In 1677 in New London, Connecticut Sarah married (1) David Carpenter[2] son of David Carpenter Sr. (1629–1650) and Elizabeth Welbourne (abt 1625–1694)

Known Children:

  1. Mary Carpenter (b. 12 AUG 1676, Christening 25 Jul 1677 in New London, Connecticut[3] - d. abt 1700 New London, Connecticut) married Thomas Crocker[4] (1 SEP 1670 New London, Connecticut, d. 28 MAR 1754 New London)
  2. Sarah Carpenter (bp. 2 NOV 1679 New London, Connecticut[5] - ? Lyme, Connecticut) married William Robbins Apr 1702 at the First Church of Christ in New London[6]
  3. David Jr Carpenter (12 NOV 1682, New London, Connecticut - DEATH Unknown)
  4. Hannah (b. abt 1683, bp.7 Feb1692 New London, Connecticut[7] - d. 28 NOV 1708 • New London, Connecticut) married John Lester (15 OCT 1679 New London, Connecticut - )
  5. Elizabeth/Elisabeth Carpenter bp. 07 Feb 1692 at First Church of Christ, New London, Connecticut[8] either married Trueman Powel on 6 Mar 1727[9] or some believe married John Pendall on 19 Jun 1704[10] in which case her DOB was c. 1685.

Note: Daughters Elizabeth and Hannah were baptized on the same date "on his wife's account".

Her husband David Carpenter died 7 MAR 1700. Probate dated 12 May 1700 in Bristol, Massachusetts[11].

On 24 Nov 1703 in New London, Connecticut widow Sarah Carpenter married (2) William Stevens of Kenellworth[12].

No known children from this marriage.

Sarah died 19 June 1718 in Saybrook, Connecticut.
