Biography

Matthew Rushing of South Carolina is often said to have married Sarah Harrell of Anson County, North Carolina, although her name is usually amended to read Howell. It is much more likely that Sarah Harrell of Anson County married Mathew Rushing of Anson County.

There seems to be some indication that Matthew Rushing of South Carolina married a woman with the family name of Howell (who may have been related to the Wall family (see Research Notes for Matthew).
Based on the birth date of their oldest named child, Matthew and his first wife probably married about 1794, presumably in Beaufort District, South Carolina.

Based on Matthew's household in 1800, his wife was born before 1775.[1]
