John Fleming^[1] Howell was born 12 Aug 1881^[2][3] in Smith County,^[1] Mississippi.^[4][5][6][7]

When he registered for the draft in 1918 during WWI he wasmarried and living in Mt. Olive, Smith County, Mississippi and was described as being tall and of medium build with blue eyes and black hair.^[2]

He married Emily^[8][6] Dorilla^[2][7][5] Johnson^[9][1] about 1901^[4] and the couple had the following known children:

MAGEE -- John F. Howell, 85, of Rt. 3, Mize, died Saturday night at his residence after a long illness.

Services will be held at 10a.m. Monday at the Mims-Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel here with burial in Zion Hill Cemetery in Smith County.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. John Howell of Mize; a son, Howard Howell of Mize; four daughters, Mrs. Hessie Daughdrill of Jackson, Mrs. Thomas Anderson of Mize, Mrs. Prentiss Walker of Mize and Mrs. J. W. Lee of Hattiesburg; a sister, Mrs. Thomas Clark of Mt. Olive; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.^[10]
