In 1878, the Southern Claims Commission disallowed M.G.'s claim for compensation for three horses at $450, saying, "This loyal man was not of the material martyrs are made of. We believe he was as Confederate in sympathy as he was in deed. The claim is disallowed." [6]

Research Notes

A source for the given name of "Mack Goode" has not been located. He is also referred to as "Mackerness Goode" in some trees, also without a source. He was referred to in his probate filings as "McGude." M.G. lived part of his life in Randolph County, Alabama, where his father died and presumably went through probate. The FamilySearch Wiki notes, "Randolph County had a destructive courthouse fire in 1897."
