Biography

John Hoxsie was born March 2, 1677 at Sandwich, Barnstable, Massachusetts, British Colonial America. He is the son of Lodowick and Mary (Presbury) Hoxsie. He married Mary Hull about 1701. He died about 1767 at Hopkinton, Washington, Colony of Rhode Island, British Colonial America.

His will is dated 9 January 1745/46 and proved on 12 May 1767 in Hopkinton, Rhode Island.[1] Transcript 5. JOHN HOXSIE 2 (Lodowick 1) was born at Sandwich, Mass. 2 March 1677, died in Rhode Island in 1767, will probated in Hopkinton. He moved to Rhode Island about 1698 and settled in that part of Westerly now called Richmond. He married Mary Hull, daughter of Joseph and Experience (Harper) Hull. Joseph Hull was born in 1652, and was a Quaker preacher, served as Governor's Assistant 1699-1703, was a cooper and trader. The first of the name in America was Joseph Hull, born 1594, B.A. Oxford University 1614, to America 1635, founder of Barnstable, later of Yarmouth and York, Maine. Clergyman, Deputy to General Court 1638. His daughter married John Hoxsie. John Hoxsie married second, in 1736, Ann Richmond, who probably brought him no children. She was very active in the Friends affairs. Joh Hoxsie was made a Freeman at Westerly 1727, served as Justice 1733-36. At the first town meeting held after the organization of Charlestown in 1738, he was elected town treasurer and overseer of the poor. Children, born Westerly, part later called Richmond. 15. i.
