Biography

Robert Hoyt ^[1] was born around 1674 to 1678 ^[2] probably in Amesbury, Essex Co., Massachusetts (where his father received land in 1666), the youngest son of John Hoyt Jr and Mary (Barnes) Hoyt. ^{[3] [4]}

Robert appears to have continued to live in Amesbury after his father was killed by Indians in 1696, as he was established there as early as 1701. ^[5] He was a farmer of Amesbury, living near "Pond Hills", (possibly the land he inherited from his mother in 1704) ^[6] and appears on the list of "snow-shoe men" for Amesbury in 1708. ^[5] Robert was chosen highway surveyor in 1703 and 1711, assessor in 1714-15, and juryman in 1720. ^[6]

On 4 Dec 1701, Robert married Martha Stevens in Amesbury, Essex Co., Massachusetts. ^{[5] [7] [1] [8] [6]} Together, they had two daughters: ^[5]

Robert's first wife, Martha, was killed during an Indian raid on Amesbury on 4 Jul 1706. ^[5] Robert then married second on 17 Mar 1707 Mary Currier in Amesbury. ^{[5] [6] [12] [13] [14] [8]} Together, they had more children: ^{[5] [11]}

Robert wrote his will on 18 Mar 1740/41 ^{[17][5] [6]} in Amesbury and died shortly thereafter, as it was proved on 1 Jun 1741. ^[6] He was survived by his second wife, Mary, who died about 1766. ^{[5] [6]}
