George was born on 23rd November 1843 in Sydney, NSW, Australia. Georges father was Thomas Humphrey and his Mother was Miriam Emmeline Houghton George was baptised on 4th February 1844 at St Phillips Sydney C of E

George married Ellen (Sinnamon) Humphrey on 26th December 1863 Elizabeth Street Sydney.
