John was born about 1838. He was the son of William and Elizabeth Hunt.

UK Census Date 1841: Higher Yeadbury, Cruwys Morchard, Devon, England. Aged 4 and living with his parents and four siblings.

In 1861 John was boarding in North Poray Moor, Cruwys Morchard, Devon. Aged 23.

He married Prudence Geen in 1864 in Tiverton, Devon. ^[1]

They appear to have had 3 children; Clara, John and Jane.
