Philip was born in Herefordshire, England on January 1, 1772 to Thomas Hunt and Cicily Hodgson.

Vicar of Aylsham

Appointed as chaplain to Lord Elgin, who was Ambassador of Great Britain to the Ottoman Empire from 1799 to 1802. Tasked with collecting antiquities, and is responsible for collecting "Elgin Marbles", now in the British Museum in London.

detained and imprisoned for two years by Napoleon Bonaparte, eventually returning to Bedford in October 1805 after an absence of six years.
