Biography

Son of Irvin Torrence Hunter (1849 – 1926) and Edna Elizabeth Stringfellow (1853 – 1926); Husband of Tacie Amanda SMITH (1873 – 1939)

Thomas was a member of the Bald Eagle Presbyterian Church, received on January 30, 1897, by examination, a membership only terminated with his death in 1932. In the 30s and 40s, other members of the Hunter family also joined the Church, specifically, Ruth Hunter, and Mrs. Lee Hunter (Ruth McCloskey). It appears many of the Hunter family were Presbyterians although some became Methodist Episcopal. Their origins as Scots-Irish "seceders" from northern Ireland is a clear antecedent for their religious preferences.

Son Torrence Duncan Hunter was born 12 Apr 1901 and recorded as an infant member of the Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church of Mill Hall, PA.

On 6 Aug 1911, Thomas Bruce Hunter was born and likewise recorded in the church records. Both were baptized on the 14th of July, 1920. In Thomas Bruce's line is the note, "deaf from childhood." On March 2, 1930, Thomas and Tacie's grandson George Thomas Moore Hunter, son of their son Lee Hunter and his wife Miriam M. Moore, was born and baptized September 14, 1930. George later died as a child. On 6 Oct 1943, Herbert Lee Hunter was born to Lee Hunter and Ruth E. Hunter. This grandson was baptized 7 Dec 1943.

On September 11, 1918, at the age of 44, Thomas registered for service in WW I. At the time, he was employed as a clerk for the PA Railroad. He was described as of medium height and medium build, grey eyes and black hair. His wife Tacie was listed as his nearest relative.
