George Hunter should have been down the mine on the day of the Kaitangata mine disaster, but he slept, was a coal miner. 1 Hunter was instrumental in opening Kaitangata coal mine (from newspaper clipping of boyd twins). 1

The book White wings Vol 1 staes. Two passages were made to New Zealand by the Corona, 1200 tons, which brought out a large number of people to Port Chalmers. On 24 1874, she left the Old Country with 496 passengers. Final departure was taken from the Lizard on June 1, crossed the equator on July 2, made the snares on August 22, 82 days from the Lizard, and arrived Port Chalmers on 28 August, 96 days from port. In 1876 she brought out 318 immigrants. . . . etc. 1
