Biography

John Elmore Huston was born on 19 Mar 1899 in sub-district Cobourg (Town/Ville) in the Northumberland (West District[1] OR York, York, Ontario, Canada as the son of William John Huston (1873-1909) and Elizabeth Jane "Lizzie" Best Huston.[2] Almost immediately he was shown on all other records as being Elmore and/or William Elmore Huston. (I do not know the reason for the name change ... was it a church registration error, a third given name (William was not shown as a given name on the birth record), or a change desired by the parents.)[3]

in 1901, William J (27) and "Lizzie J (25) and their 2 sons, Cecil Huston (3) and Elmore (2) were living in Cobourg, Northumberland, Ontario, Canada. Also in the household were a domestic Maud Anderson (23), and 2 lodgers Emma Dickson (18) and Edith Dickson (17). William worked as a photographer.[1]

He arrived in the USA from Canada at age 18, on 23 Nov 1917, lived at 350 Wellington Ave, in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, and was naturalized in Illinois at the age of 28, on 6 May 1927.[3] [4]

During that 10 year period, William E Huston (26) and Jessie Anette (Johnson) Huston (1895-1983) (28) married at the First Lutheran Church on 22 Sep 1923 in DeKalb, DeKalb, Illinois.[4][5]

While living at 3044 Belmont in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, Williiam Elmore registered for WWI Draft on 12 Sep 1918. At that time he was described as of medium build and height, with brown hair and blue eyes.[6] He registered a second time, this time for WWII Draft, on 16 Feb 1942. He was described as being 5 8, 165 lb, of light complexion, gray hair and blue eyes. He was working for the Burgess Battery Co. at 180 N Wabash in Chicago at the time and named Cecil C Huston of 4003 Doris Ave, Detroit, Michigan as his person to contact.[7] On both occasions, he used name William Elmore Huston.

In 1930, William (33) is working as an accountant. He and Jessie (35) and three children - William Huston (4), Jane Huston (1) and Mary Louise Huston (1) were shown as living at 928 N St John Ave in Highland Park, Lake, Illinois[4]

William E died at the age of 56, on 6 Jul 1955, in Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, USA.[8]
