Born c. 1750 [estimated DOB] Possibly in King and Queen County, Goochland or Albemarle County. Died c. 1816 From strong circumstantial evidence, Esther married John Smith in Bedford County around 1772. In 1771, brother Nathaniel Newman Hylton sold to Esther 50 acres of land. In 1773, John Smith sold the same 50 acres to James Hylton. Deed was signed by John Smith and Hester Smith.
By 1792, it appears she was widowed, as she appears by herself on the Montgomery County personal property tax list.
She was living in 1815-1816 when she was to give a deposition in the chancery suit against the estate of brother George Hylton, deceased.
No deposition was taken and no further mention of her, so it may be assumed she died around 1816, likely in Montgomery County, possibly Grayson or Patrick.
