He was commandant of the Herzogenbusch concentration camp.
It was not until 1954 that Hüttig was tried and convicted for his war crimes. He was sentenced to life in prison in solitary confinement on 2 July 1954 by a French military court in Metz. In 1956, he was released from detention and lived in Wachenheim until his death.
