Eliza Leonard Irons was born on June 22, 1873 in Monroe, Tennessee, United States, daughter of James Love Irons (1827–1910) and Martha Patsy Tilley (~1827–1890).^[1]

Eliza (22) married James Washington Tate (23) (born on November 1, 1871 in Monroe; son of Frances Marion Tate and Nancy Jane Tate) on September 24, 1895 in Monroe.^[2]

Their children were:

• Ethel Mae Tate (1897–1959)
• Virginia Olga Tate (1901–1976)
• Verdie Tate (1902–>1920)
• Francis Marion Tate (1907–1988)
