Biography

Mary (Irwin) Rockstroh was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)

Mary Jane IRWIN, daughter of George IRWIN and Eliza Jane KERRIGAN, was born in 1876 in Patricks Plains (R.D.), Colony of New South Wales. [1]

Mary married Robert John Phillip ("Phillip") ROCKSTROH, son of Andreas Conrad Henry ("Henry") ROCKSTROH and Elizabeth TURNER, on 16 February 1891 in Warialda, Colony of New South Wales. [2] The marriage ended in divorce in January 1902. [3] [4] [5]

Phillip was born in 1866 in Tamworth (R.D.), Colony of New South Wales and died in May 1944 in Newtown (R/D), New South Wales, Australia 10 at age 78.

They had four children: Thomas Henry ("Henry"), Amelia Elizabeth ("Millie"), Angelina S. ("Leana"), and Amy Annie.

    ROCKSTROH v. ROCKSTROH.
    Robert John Philip Rockstroh, a laborer, residing at Warialda, petitioned for a divorce from Mary Jane Rockstroh, formerly Irwin, on the ground of her adultery with Thomas Henry Tiplady, who had been joined as co-respondent. Petitioner deposed to having married the respondent in February, 1891, according to the rites of the Church of England. They lived in the Warialda district for eight years, and then they came to Sydney. They went to stay with his mother at Cabramatta. He remained for six weeks, and returned to Warialda, and in September, 1899, he rejoined his wife, whom he had left behind. From something his mother had told him, he accused his wife of misconduct with Tiplady, and she admitted it. Tiplady also confessed that he had been intimate with the respondent. A decree nisi was granted, to be moved absolute in three months.

    ROCKSTROH v. ROCKSTROH (TIPLADY, CO-RESPONDENT).
    Mr. Boyce, instructed by Mr. F.C. Boys, appeared for the petitioner, Robert John Philip Rockstroh; there was no appearance on behalf of the respondent, Mary Rockstroh, formerly Irwin, or of the co-respondent, Thomas Henry Tiplady. It was stated that respondent was now an inmate of the Callan Park Asylum, and that the Master in Lunacy had filed an appearance on her behalf, but had not filed an answer. Petitioner deposed that he was married to the respondent at Warialda in February 1891, according to the rites of the Church of England. Evidence having been given of the misconduct alleged, a decree nisi, returnable in three months, was granted.

    His Honor made absolute the decrees nisi in the following suits, and declared the marriages dissolved:- Frederick William Ackling v. Sarah Ackling (with custody of the children); Catherine Webster Henderson v. Charles Clarke Henderson (with custody of the child); Maria Smith v. Thomas Smith; John Miller v. Alice Miller; and Robert John Philip Rockstroh v. Mary Jane Rockstroh.
