Biography

Church of Ireland Clergy

Charles was born in 1837. He was the son of Charles Irwin and Elizabeth Ensor.

He was educated by his father Rev Charles King Irwin, Precentor of Armagh and entered Trinity College Dublin on 8 November 1852, aged 15. Sch. 1854; B.A. (Jun. Mod. CI.) 1857; Div. Test (2) 1858 ; M.A. 1860 ; B.D. and D.D. 1877. [1]

Ordained Deacon 1860; Priest 1861. He was Curate Derrynoose 1860-6; Curate Kilmore 1866-72; Rector St. Saviour's 1872-3; Rector Brantry 1873-9; Rector Derrynoose 1880-93; Rector Clonfeacle 1893-6; also Financial Secretary. of Armagh Diocese 1870-94; Hon. Sec. Armagh Synod and Council from 1894 ; Treasurer of Armagh Cathedral 1886-94 ; Examiniag Chaplain to the Primate since 1889 ; Diocesan Nominator and Representative Member of R.C.B ; Archdeacon of Armagh from 1894; Rector Armagh from 1896 .

Charles married Mary Waller Crossle, 3rd daughter of Rev. Charles Crossle, Rector of Kilcluney, on 14 April 1873, [2]

  1. Charles King, (Rev) b. 30 March 1874, Bishop of Connor, married Louisa Royse, daughter of Rev. Thomas Henry Royse on 9 January 1901.
  2. James Crossle, b. 3 May 1875
  3. Elizabeth Ensor, b. 21 July 1876, married J. C. Scott, M.D.
  4. John King (Rev), b. 9 September 1877
  5. Mary Crossle b. 2 Oct 1878
  6. Isabella Anne b. 11 April 1883

He died in 1915. [3]

Probate to his sons Rev Charles King Irwin and James C Irwin, Bank Auditor.[4]
