Biography

Oliver Alexander Ishmael was born in 1865 in Nicholas County, Kentucky. He was the first child of 13 born to Benjamin Ishmael and Mary Mann. In his early 20's we find him in Missouri, where he married Hettie Harbit in Appleton, Missouri in 1887. He joined the Ministry of Christ in 1888. They had 2 daughters and one stillborn son. They moved to Kansas sometime before 1908. We find the family in the 1910 Kansas Census, but sometime after that they headed further west and in 1914 are living in Sandpoint Idaho where he was a minister in the Christian Church. Sometime before 1917 Oliver and family are living in Spokane Wa. where he finally settled. Oliver pastored a few churches in Spokane and I am sure a few on his journey west. My mother tells me he was a true servant of God until he passed from this earth to be with his master. She remembers that the family had very little, but would always give of what he did have, to those he said, had even less. He retired in 1930. and he died in 1933, at the age of 68. His body was laid to rest with his wife at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, but his soul went home.
