Biography

In about 1868, Harvey and his sister, Amanda Artilla and their grandparents, Andrew and Rebecca Curry Moore, moved to Willow Creek, Montana and in about 1870 they moved to Nodaway County, Missouri. Andrew and Rebecca had joined the the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In a letter from Andrew Moore to his son, John Harvey he states, " Harvey and Tilley Ivie is a living with me, they want to see you all, Harvey is a tending the farm. Artella says she wants some of her cousins to write to her and she will answer it. She says she wrote to the girls once and never an answer." Andrew & Rebecca Curry Moore

"Mr. W. H. Ivie, who has made his home with his daughter Mrs. A. E. McCord since the death of his wife in 1920 except for the year 1924 which he spent with his son T. A. and family, passed peacefully away at the home of his daughter Tuesday, August 11, 1925, 8:20 a. m. after an illness which began in February of this year. However, he was able to be up and about until the past three weeks when his strength began to wand and he was compelled to take to his bed but for short intervals when he sat up to rest.

Pernicious enema and old age were the cause of his demise. He had been a very stout, vigorous man of unusual good health and strength. For the past three weeks he had taken but very little nourishment.

He was born December 8th 1848, near what is now called Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1851 or 1852 he crossed the plains in a covered wagon with his parents for the golden opportunities of the west. When he was but 12 years of age he was bereft of both father and mother and was left to his own resources for a living. He stayed with a cousin in Provo, Utah until he was 17 when he went to Montana. At the age of 20, he embarked on a steamboat from Fort Benton, Montana for the State of Missouri, landing at Atchison, Kansas after a continuous voyage of 17 days.

He found employment in Nodaway and DeKalb counties and on January 3rd 1875 was married to Miss Mary Anderson near Barnard, Missouri, making their home in Nodaway county except for a few years spent in Decatur county, Iowa. Mr. Ivie bought a small farm east of Ravenwood, Missouri where he lived for a number of years, later, he bought a larger farm, which he still owns, about 12 miles south-east of Maryville, to which place he moved and made his home for many years. He retired from farm live and moved to Guilford about 1912. In the fall of 1914 he bought property in Stewartsville and moved here to be close to be close to their daughter where he kept his home until October 1920 when his companion was called from her earthly home to the great beyond.

To this union four children were born, two sons and two daughters, T. A. and B. P. and Mrs. A. E. McCord all of Stewartsville, and Mrs. G. R. Crossan of Wyoming who died in 1917 (note: should be 1914).

Mr. Ivie was baptized when a young man into the Reorganized church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and held steadfast to the faith once delivered to the Saints.

He was 76 years 8 months and 3 days old at the time of his departure. He leaves to mourn besides his children, four grand children, one great grand-child, a brother Hiram of Richfield, Utah, another brother Joe of Farmington, New Mexico, also a sister Mary of Colorado, a number of nephews and nieces as well as a host of friends.

Funeral services at Long Branch near Bedison, Missouri, today at 1: p. m. where the body will be enterred beside his companion who shared his sorrows as well as his joys for nearly 50 years."[1]

"Mom says: Brothers of Wm. Harvey were Uncle Hiram - his son worked for J C Penney...Uncle Joe - cattle rustler in New Mexico", [2]
