Lower District Battalion, Frederick County Militia, Maryland Militia, American Revolution
William was born on 19 Jun 1755 in Frederick County, Maryland.[1] The identity of his parents is not known.
During the American Revolution, he entered the service in Apr or May 1776 as a Sergeant under Captain Philip Maroney, in Colonel Charles Greenberry Griffith's Lower District Battalion of Frederick County Militia, Maryland. He volunteered to reinforce Fort Washington, but while he was there, the fort surrendered and he was taken prisoner, then exchanged in Oct 1780. He then enlisted on 9 Jun 1781 and served two months in Captain John Ross Key's horse troop. He was allowed pension for his service.[2]
On 28 Apr 1781, he married Sarah Thomas at Frederick, Maryland.[3][1] Some of their children were:[2]
After the Revolution, the Jacobs moved to Frederick County, Virginia; Hardy County, Virginia; Hampshire County, Virginia; and settled in Morgan County, Ohio.[2]
William Jacobs passed away on 3 Jun 1836 at Morgan County, Ohio.[1] He was buried at Hughes Cemetery, Jackson Township, Noble County, Ohio.[4]
